Civilization A New Dawn (Board Game)
This is a 4X* board game based off the Civilization video game series. By expanding their empire, players compete for randomly selected victory conditions. Games typically last 1 – 2 hours, but new players can expect a little longer while they learn the game. Since each player may only take 1 action per turn, this is a relatively easy game to learn as the game progresses.
GM: Daniel Hoctor; 2-4 players

Evening Session: 5 pm. – 10 p.m.

X-Wing (Miniatures)
X-Wing has become a popular game at 2 Flights Up. All Star Wars fans are welcome to come. We are happy to accommodate new players. Either bring your own fleet or just come and we’ll assemble a fleet for you with our ships. This miniatures game is great for ages 16 and up.

All Day Game Day

Have fun with Tabletop games!

This is a full day of tabletop gaming goodness! There will be several planned events (see below) and a growing game library available all day. You are also welcome to bring along any games of your own that you would like to play with new friends. Entry fee is included in monthly $5 membership.

Here are some of the games we hope to get to the table at this game day.  They might not all make it, it depends on the crowd, of course, so if you are excited about playing one of these, let us know!

18EU (Boardgame)
Starting with minor railroad companies in the 1830s in Europe, this game follows the development of the railroad industry through the 1930s.  Players will buy stock in, and eventually take control of mighty railroad companies in order to maximize their own personal wealth.
GM: Thomas Compter;  3-6 players

Brass  (Boardgame)
Brass is an economic strategy game that tells the story of competing cotton entrepreneurs in Lancashire during the industrial revolution. You must develop, build, and establish your industries and network so that you can capitalize demand for iron, coal and cotton. The game is played over two halves: the canal phase and the rail phase. To win the game, score the most victory points (VPs), which are counted at the end of each half.
GM: Thomas Compter;  3-6 players

Merchant of Venus (Boardgame)
Players take on the roles of space traders who move their ships through interconnected systems discovering new alien worlds to trade with. As players start to make money delivering commodities in a unique supply-and-demand system, their earnings can be used to purchase upgrades for their ships and equipment (shields, lasers, engines, etc…) and construct their own spaceports (which speed up trading).
GM: Jeannie Compter;  2-4 players

X-Wing (Miniatures)
X-Wing has become a popular game at 2 Flights Up. All Star Wars fans are welcome to come. We are happy to accommodate new players. Either bring your own fleet or just come and we’ll assemble a fleet for you with our ships. This miniatures game is great for ages 16 and up.  We’ll either be playing 1st edition, or the Triplanetary/Leviathan/X-Wing mashup that Thomas is working on.

Dominos (Chickenfoot) (Boardgame)
Chickenfoot itself is at heart a tile laying network game.  You play 10 rounds, each round starts with a different double domino working your way up from double-blank to double-nine. You must first fill the double chickenfoot with the 4 tiles that go around it. If you can’t fill you must draw a new tile. Once the chickenfoot is played you may play a new domino, either putting a number against a number or playing a double tile in a T arrangement across another domino, this becomes a new chickenfoot and must be filled before continuing, a player draws a tile if they can’t finish the Chickenfoot. The round ends when one player has no tile, or there are no tiles left to play on a chickenfoot.
A fun game that can be played by gamers and non-gamers alike.
GM: Jeannie Compter; 2-6 players

Sorry   (Boardgame)
Race your four game pieces from Start around the board to your Home in this Pachisi type game. By turning over a card from the draw deck and following its instructions, players move their pieces around the game board, switch places with players, and knock opponents’ pieces off the track and back to their Start position.

Late Session: 4 pm.ish – 10 p.m.

Battle of Cape St Vincent (1797) (Miniatures)Tattered Sails and Shattered Gunwales
14 February 1797
The Spanish and the British were at it again. Admiral Sir John Jervis was determined to cut off the Spanish fleet before they joined the French fleet at Brest. With the intel gathered during the night by Commodore Horatio Nelson, Jervis knew where the spanish fleet was, but not how big the fleet was. By the time morning came and he found his fleet committed to battle, he discovered that he was outnumbered nearly 2 to 1.
This semi-historical naval miniatures battle will be fought using the Tattered Sails and Shattered Gunwales ruleset: (http://www.compterenterprises.com/pirates/Sails.pdf).
GM: Thomas Compter; 2-6 players

Galaxy Trucker (Boardgame)
In a galaxy far, far away… they need sewer systems, too. Corporation Incorporated builds them. Everyone knows their drivers — the brave men and women who fear no danger and would, if the pay was good enough, even fly through Hell.
Now you can join them. You will gain access to prefabricated spaceship components cleverly made from sewer pipes. Can you build a space ship durable enough to weather storms of meteors? Armed enough to defend against pirates? Big enough to carry a large crew and valuable cargo? Fast enough to get there first?
GM: Jeannie Compter; 2-4 players

Tournament Rules:

The official rules of the game will be available on the day of the tournament.

There will be a Preliminary Round of 1 or 2 heats, depending on the number of participants.
As best we can, we will fill tables of 6 to play the game, or if we can’t, then we will fill tables as evenly as possible.
Games will use the speed die to accelerate play.
Games will last for 1.5 hours.  At that time, after finishing the current round with all players getting the same number of turns, the players will add up the value of their property:

(1) cash on hand;
(2) lots, utilities and railroads owned, at the price printed on the board;
(3) any mortgaged property owned, at one-half the price printed on the board;
(4) houses, valued at purchase price;
(5) hotels, valued at purchase price including the value of the 4 houses turned in.

Players will be ranked in order of finish for each round.
A score of 1 will be assigned to the winner of the game (the player with the most value).
The highest number score will be assigned to the player with lowest money total or to the first player to go bankrupt.
Scores (money value) for each game will also be kept for each player.
The top 6 players (those with the lowest rank) from the Preliminary Round will advance to the Final Round.
If there is a tie, it will be decided by the amount of money value the tied players had.
The Final Round will decide the winners. If there is a tie, it will be decided by the total amount of money value the tied players had in both rounds.

House Rules

Immunities are not allowed. (For example: “I’ll trade you this property if you don’t make me pay when I land on it the next 3 times”).
No advice giving.
Each player is given $2500 at the beginning of the game (3 $500s, Seven $100s, Two $50s, Six $20s, Five $10s, Five $5s, Five $1s.

“Official” Rule Clarifications

“FREE PARKING”… A player landing on this place does not receive any money, property or reward of any kind. This is just a “free” resting place.
The buying and selling of houses does not have to occur on your turn, but rather, can be done at any time during the game.
Each game board must have exactly 32 houses and 12 hotels.
When a player rolls doubles on the 3rd roll when in jail, the person moves no matter what. If they roll doubles, they move and do not pay the $50 (They do not roll again even though doubles were rolled). If the player does not roll doubles, they pay the $50, then move.
When a player lands on a utilities spot, they do not roll again, but instead, use the total of the dice that got them there (not including the Speed Die).
If a player lands on an available property and chooses not to purchase it, the property is auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Auctions are held for individual houses or hotels if there is a shortage. The winning bidder must pay a minimum of the price stated for houses and hotels for that property’s card.
You can trade mortgaged property. It just needs to be treated as still mortgaged.
Money can be loaned to a player only by the Bank and then only by mortgaging property. No player may borrow from or lend money to another player.

The players compete to create rows, columns or diagonals of 5 connected checkers placed on the cards that the player has laid down. Two-eyed Jacks are wild, while one-eyed Jacks allow an opponent’s checker to be removed. The game ends when someone has reached a specified number of connections.

Sidereal Confluence (Board Game)
This is a deep and fluid trading game like no other. Assume the role of one of nine alien species trying to impress its own value structure upon a galactic treaty organization, each with completely different needs and capabilities. Everything is for sale, and all deals are binding; these two simple rules make Sidereal Confluence a memorable social experience on par with classics such as Alien Encounters.
GM: Mike Rizzuti; 4-9 players

Merchants and Marauders (Board Game)
Live the life of an influential merchant or a dreaded pirate in the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy. Seek your fortune through trade, rumor hunting, missions, and of course, plundering. Modify your ship, buy impressive vessels, load deadly special ammunition, and hire specialist crew members. Will your captain gain eternal glory and immense wealth – or find his wet grave under the stormy surface of the Caribbean Sea?
GM: Thomas Compter; 2-4 players

Diamonds (Card Game)
Diamonds is a trick-taking card game in which players collect Diamonds — not cards bearing that suit, mind you, but rather actual “Diamond Crystals” (acrylic crystals) included in the game.  What makes the game of Diamonds different from other trick-taking card games is that when you cannot follow suit you get a “Suit Action” based on what suit you do play. Suit Actions are also taken by the winner of each trick, as well as at the end of a full Round of play.
GM: Jeannie Compter; 2-6 players

Hand & Foot   (Card Game)
Hand & Foot is a set building game, normally played with four people in two teams. It typically uses four or five regular poker decks including the jokers. Each player starts with two piles of eleven cards. One pile is their hand, the other, their foot. The players draw two cards a turn, playing some if they choose and then discarding one at the end of each of their turns. Once a player has played all the cards in their hand they will pick up their foot. Sets are comprised of 7 cards of the same number. Sets may have wild cards in them, jokers and twos, but then the set is no longer clean, it would then be considered dirty. A team needs at least 1 clean set and 1 dirty set to go out.

Moral Conflict (Boardgame) 12 noon – 3 pm
The stakes are high as you take your role as a leader of a great power in the darkest days of the 20th Century. The scene is set in summer 1941 as the Axis launched Barbarossa, the greatest military campaign in history, which set the course for the rest of the Second World War.  This time we’re playing with an updated and clarified set of rules.
GM: Thomas Compter; 2-5 players

Dominos (ChickenFoot) (BoardGame) 1 pm – 3 pm
Chickenfoot is a dominos game where playing a double requires 3 matches, which are splayed out — you guessed it — like a chicken foot.  As always, you want to get rid of your dominos as fast as you can!
GM: Jeannie Compter; 2-6 players

Galaxy Trucker  (Boardgame)5 pm – 7 pm
In a galaxy far, far away… they need sewer systems, too. Corporation Incorporated builds them. Can’t Stop  (Boardgame) 7 pm – 9 pm
In this Sid Sackson classic, players must press their luck with dice and choose combinations tactically to close out three columns. The board has one column for each possible total of two six-sided dice, but the number of spaces in each column varies: the more probable a total, the more spaces in that column and the more rolls it takes to complete. On their turn, a player rolls four dice and arranges them in duos: 1 4 5 6 can become 1+4 and 5+6 for 5 & 11, 1+5 and 4+6 for 6 & 10, or 1+6 and 4+5 for 7 & 9.
GM: Jeannie Compter; 2-4 players
