Anne has studied with Master Kai Ying Tung’s school and instructors since 1995. Quoting master Tung: “The goal is not to demonstrate strength, power or violence. The goal is to attain serenity, tranquility, and the discovery of ones self.”

Come Paint your Snowmen group

Hey everyone!! Let’s get together and paint this wonderful Snowman group. We will serve some cheese and wine (and other non-alcoholic beverages). Never painted before? Then this group is for YOU! I will guide you step by step in painting, through this class. You will definitely bring out your inner artist! Its a guaranteed RELAXING fun night out! The classes I teach are typically $30 per person (or you bring your own canvas and paint and you only pay $20 per person).  You will have to pay in advance to reserve a seat. If you pay the $30, I provide everything you need: canvas, paint, brushes, easels, music and inspiration…. Just bring yourself, your friends, and yes, you may bring your own wine if you like and snacks. So, let the Paint Party begin! As a Social Art-working Paint Party instructor I also travel to other people’s homes to instruct a paint party. For more information on that please email me at jeannie@2FlightsUp.com

A Labyrinth event on Third Thursday

Outdoor labyrinthNot really 2 Flights Up related, but our friend  Lawrence Carroll  has co-created a Labyrinth event for Pittsfield’s Third Thursday on October 15th. Here’s what he has to say about it:

It will be located on the lawn outside St Joseph’s Church on North St. The plan is to make the labyrinth from twine and pegs, lined with tea lights. The labyrinth will go to an indoor venue if weather is bad (location to be decided). The labyrinth will be ready for walkers from 5:15 to 7:15pm. DESCRIPTION The labyrinth is a single circuitous path that winds its way into the center. You will be able to slow down, relax and let go of the pressure and stress from your week and life. When you reach the center there will be a message just for you to help you go forward, be energized and renewed. The path is in full view, and will be lit by candles which allows you stay quiet and focused. Use the labyrinth in any way that meets what you need while being respectful of others walking. To prepare, you may want to sit quietly to reflect before walking the labyrinth. Some people come with questions, others just to slow down and take time out from a busy life. Some come during times of grief and loss. Some come to find strength to take the next step. Thank you for sharing with your friends.

Gaming Marathon FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about the 2 Flights Up Extra Life Gaming Marathon to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals; October 17-18, 2015

There seems to be some bit of confusion about our gaming marathon this month. Hopefully this FAQ will clear some of that up.

Q: When is the gaming marathon taking place?
A: From 11:00 AM, Saturday October 17th to 11:00 AM, Sunday October 18th, in conjunction with our normal monthly All Day Game Day.

Q: Does it cost $$ to attend?
A: The Marathon is happening in conjunction with our normal monthly All Day Game Day. There is a $5 fee to attend all our monthly game days, unless you sign up (at least a week in advance) to GM a game. Due to the length of this Game Day, we’re accepting more GM submissions than we normally do. Please go to our submission page to sign up.

Q: Do I have to stay for the whole 24 hours?
A: NO! You can come and stay for as long as you wish.

Q: If I “Join the Team”, do I have to stay for the whole 24 hours?
A: No, stay as long as you’re able. (Hint – if you can’t make 24 hours in one stretch, commit to coming to our weekly game nights or “normal” All Day Game Days until you’ve accumulated 24 hours.)

Q: Do I HAVE to donate to the Childrens’ Miracle Network Hospital in order to attend?
A: No. While we would welcome your support for this important cause, you do not have to make a donation to attend the Game Day. We still want to have as many gamers and GMs having fun as possible, and with 24 hours to play, we’ll have plenty of opportunity!

Q: How do I “Join the Team”?
A: Go to this page and click on JOIN OUR TEAM.

Q: Do I have to ‘Join the Team’ to contribute?
A: No!

Q: How do I donate without joining the team?
A: Go to this page and click on Roster. Then choose one of the team members and click on their name. Then click on SUPPORT ME.

Q: If I DO want to contribute to the cause, but I can’t or don’t want to go to the game day, can I still contribute?
A: Absolutely! See the instructions above.

Q: On the Extra Life sign up page, it says I have to put a minimum of $100 for my goal. Do I have to pay $100?
A: No. One hundred dollars is the minimum GOAL, but you won’t be required to put in that yourself. You SHOULD encourage your friends and family to support you by going to your fundraising page and donating.

Q: What is Extra Life?
A: Extra Life is an organization of gamers which raises money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Q: Where does the money go?
A: The money that you raise through Extra Life will go directly to your chosen Children’s Miracle Network Hospital as ~unrestricted funds’. This means that the hospital decides where and how to spend the money to ensure the dollars you raise make the biggest impact in the lives of the kids they treat.

There are a lot of charities out there, and many are worthy of your support.   However, we’ve all heard stories about charities that don’t quite live up to their names, where much of the money raised DOESN’T get to the people that need it.   Thankfully, there are organizations that keep an eye on those charities.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals is rated very highly by at least 3 of these watchdog agencies, so you should feel comfortable donating, because your dollars are going directly to where the need is.

Behütunsburg Print ‘n’ Play now available!

It’s been a long time coming, but we finally have a print and play version of Thomas & Jeannie’s game Behütunsburg available online.  Here’s the description:

In 13th century Bayern, family ties were strong, but for some, the lust for power was stronger.
Rivalry among and within noble families would often lead to Machiavellian politics, outright theft and sometimes kidnapping. The Behütuns family was no different, as different branches of the family squabbled over money & subjects.

Be the first in your family to assemble a retinue of Barons, Knights and their Ladies and earn the right to declare yourself King and build the mighty castle Behütunsburg.

Behütunsburg is a two-player card game. Two copies of the game can be used to play with 3-4 players.

Get the Print ‘n’ Play version.   It’s Free, fer cryin’ out loud!

You pick the featured game tonight!

We’ve been busy, Jeannie and I, and haven’t had time to think about the featured  game of the night for tonight’s game night, so You can pick it!  Make a comment  to this post with the game you want to play, and we’ll guarantee to play it!
